India, a country filled with an immense history of culture has seen many transformations but, in some ways, has been able to preserve its heritage. With so many advancements and modernization, there are still elements that differentiate and tell the folklore of the nation it has been. Anything that connects us with our forgotten past and culture is art. Through various mediums of art, we have been able to cherish something our ancestors left off for us. This goes without saying for music too. Even with so many new genres and sounds being introduced in the country, some artists are keeping the souls of the thousands left alive. Folk music is something that has an enriching history in our society. Something that has been passed on for generations. With the current music scene having very few folk artists available currently keeping the spirit alive. One of them is Rajat Tiwari.

Born as the son of a professional folk musician, music was always a part of the bustling towns of Chhattisgarh. Being brought up in such a culture, music was in the blood of our artists. From making songs in high school, he found it to be a very manageable errand to create songs. Learning classical music at a very young age, he never intended to be a singer or a composer. Still shifting to Mumbai to work in the music industry after learning the guitar too, he gained a lot of industry knowledge after working in big shows & movies like "Comedy Nights with Kapil". Not initially yearning to be a singer or a songwriter, now Rajit started off his career as a music composer fabricating music for TV serials and movies. This continued till the lockdown when he realized that making songs for others does not bring the exact joy one receives when creating something out of his voice. Since then, he has started as an independent artist while still composing songs.
"As an artist, I believe I have two primary goals. The first one is to put forward my truth, what my existence fuels, and what my enumerated feelings are trying to speak. The second is to engage in something that pleases my heart. Something that brings immense joy"

When we asked Rajat to describe the sound of his music, there were certain clouds of doubt in his eyes. Trying to label his work, he shared how he sometimes struggles to give a technical aspect to the music. With most of his songs being acoustic, he in an ingrained voice said that there are gonna be more elements in the upcoming music. But don't let the lack of technical knowledge fool you into considering him like an ordinary artist. When talking about experience, he has tremendous knowledge and skills gathered in making music. He made four tracks for the Amazon Prime Hit series " Chacha Vidhayak Hai Humare" with a song made independently licensed for the show. With many more songs stacked up for films, series, and documentaries, he has already stacked up his career in a sense where most artists feel at their top. But even after producing so many tracks, Rajat feels like giving out more. Currently working on a movie in which he is helping in the creation of three tracks while working with all-time artists like Papon. He shares his future desires and goals which will unfold in the remaining year. With so many recorded tracks dusting away in hard drives, he plans on releasing two EPs this year each containing a pack of four tracks. Still unsure about the labels of the track and how the projects should be designed, he believes the quality of the project is too good that it will be able to sell off. But for the time being, he is venturing into every sector of music and hopefully by the end of this year will deliver and leave an unremovable mark on the industry.
"Arranging music is the most important thing while creating a song. It's up to every individual how they approach it. For me, the lyrics are the soul, the composition is the body, and the production is the clothes."
